Our new blog has been launched today. Stay focused on it and we will try to keep you informed. You can read new posts on this blog via the RSS feed.

I would like to tell you how I became a running junkie and then I am hoping you will give us your story. I want this blog to be an open forum for runners of all kinds with a focus on masters division runners.

At age 54 I looked at myself in the mirror one day and let out a huge gasp. I looked heavy and I looked old.

I had been an athlete playing anything iwth a ball all my life. But, as I aged I began to slow down and develop ache and pains. 30 pounds had crept up on my frame and people began to call me "big guy". One day I was walking my dog and bent over and could not get up as my hip had "locked up". I started to think as myself as an old man.

After weeks of crying about the unfairness of growing old, I looked in the mirror and swore at myself. I called myself a dozen unflattering names and made a pledge to start running. I began with a cheap pair of shoes and ran around my neighborhood. I made it about a quarter mile and almost died. Two days later I went for a half mile and made it limping. By the end of the first month, I was able to run a slow 12 minuite mile, After 3 months I entered my first 5k race with only a goal to finish in which I did in 36:11 minutes.

Now 16 months and 23 races later, I am down to a personal best of 28:24 in a 5k. I have run 8 and 10k races and completed half marathons in training and plan my first half marathin race on Dec. 2nd of this year, I have lost 30 pounds and feel like a new man. I have my aches and pains, but also have my GAINS!

I want you to give us your story, tips, advice, sucesses, failures and motivations. I want us all to experience the joy of running and make friends along the way.

Thank you - Kent
